PlayStation 5 Remote Play App Is Now Available On PS4

Sony dropped it out of nowhere.

The PlayStation 5 Remote Play application has appeared on the PlayStation 4's home system menu, with next to no announcement from Sony.

It's pre-installed, so there's no need to start clearing away clutter on your console to shift some room for it. But, you should probably do that anyway, as a habit, for the performance and longevity of the PlayStation 4. PlayStation 5 Remote Play will work similarly to the PS Vita's Remote Play, which used to let you stream your PlayStation 4 favourites to the portable platform. For it to be effective, the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will need to be switched on, active, and connected to the internet.

Seeing as the PlayStation 5 is yet to launch worldwide, the app is purely for decorative purposes right now. Even those who have a PlayStation 5 ahead of its official release report that it isn't activated, so we don't know what the app is like when it's running or how it carries out this connection between the current-gen and the next-gen consoles. However, we do have a set of instructions courtesy of Video Games Chronicle. The user must enable Remote Play from the PS5's system menu, then either discover Remote Play on the PS4 automatically through wi-fi connection or enter a supplied code. Et voila.

Fingers crossed that the DualShock 4 controller works for PlayStation 5 titles through the Remote Play app. At the moment, the DualShock 4 controller is not compatible with the PlayStation 5, and the DualSense is not compatible with the PlayStation 4. When this was revealed, Sony got a lot of flack, especially from disabled gamers who rely on their modified DualShock 4 controllers to play their favourite games. Moreover, the Xbox Series X and Series S will let players use their previous-gen controllers on the next-generation gizmo, to avoid unnecessary waste. And, the weirdest fact of all, the DualSense is compatible with xCloud, which is its competitor's flagship cloud gaming service.

Moving on, it is confirmed that the DualShock 4 controller will work with PlayStation 4 games on PlayStation 5 owing to backwards compatibility. That means Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, and many more. Speciality peripherals, including officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will also communicate and be usable for PlayStation 5 titles.
