PlayStation Plus users can look forward to yet another exciting day one release in May.

If you’re looking to sign up to PlayStation Plus, it’s the extra tier that I’d recommend. Not only do you gain access to an ever-expanding catalogue, but Sony is really taking strides to improve and increase its day one offerings.

I shouldn’t think you’ll see Sony emulating Xbox Game Pass’ major AAA day one launches any time soon, but they have secured some excellent titles as of late.

This month alone saw two exciting day one releases launch on the subscription service, EA’s Tales of Kenzera: Zau and the PlayStation port of the award-winning indie Dave The Diver.

May will continue the run by bringing us the very intriguing Animal Well, a Metroidvania that’s also set to launch on PC and Nintendo Switch.

Take a look at the aforementioned Dave The Diver in action below. It’s well worth giving a go.

Developed by Shared Memory and set to be published by Bigmode, Animal Well involves exploration, platforming, and puzzle solving.

“Discover a mysterious, non-linear, interconnected world as you solve puzzles in over 250 rooms in whatever order you choose. Rely on your wits to avoid danger in this combat-free Metroidvania,” reads the synopsis.

“You'll encounter creatures both beautiful and unsettling, and have to decide what is safe and dangerous. Manipulate a pixel-art world in surprising and meaningful ways and try to survive what lurks in the dark. In Animal Well, there is more to the world than what you can see.”

This has my attention, for sure. I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest Metroidvania fan but I hugely enjoyed last year’s Disney Illusion Island which adopted a similar puzzle-solving, no-combat approach.

Animal Well has been crafted by solo developer Billy Basso who began work on the project in 2017. How exciting it’ll be for him to finally see the game land in the hands of players.

It’s set to join PlayStation Plus’ extra tier on 9 May, so we don’t have too long to wait.

In just two days time, May’s essential tier line-up will be unveiled too so there’s plenty on the way for us to enjoy.
