Xbox Game Pass is losing five free games at the end of February.

As more games get added to Xbox Game Pass, others also end up leaving as a result.

This is usually the case with gaming subscription services, where several games leave the service each month due to expiring licences or other issues preventing them from staying on there.

For the end of February, Xbox Game Pass will be losing five free games, as can be seen when you go to the Xbox Game Pass app on your PC or console.

According to the app, Xbox Game Pass will lose Madden NFL 24, Monster Train, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and Injustice 2 by the end of the month.

Xbox Game Pass Will Lose Some Massive Games At The End Of The Month

Out of all these games, it’s pretty easy to see why some of them are being removed now.

For starters, Madden NFL 24 is being quietly sunsetted due to its age.

Electronic Arts

The game was released in August 2023, and two new versions have been released since then, so it makes sense why Electronic Arts would want to push users onto the updated games instead.

Meanwhile, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game was added in September 2024, and so probably had an 18-month agreement to appear on Xbox Game Pass. Monster Train came last February too, so it would have had the bog-standard 12-month contract.

On the other hand, Injustice 2 and Middle-earth: Shadow of War have been available on Xbox Game Pass for years, so their removal is a little more puzzling.

With them both being Warner Bros. properties, it’s likely that the publisher has decided to shuffle around its offerings on the service.

As is usually the case with Xbox Game Pass' policy, a discount of 20% is also applied to these games should you want to purchase them before they’re removed from the service.

On the other hand, in terms of what games have arrived on Xbox Game Pass this month, the list includes Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Relooted, and High On Life 2.

We also have Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Death Howl to look forward to towards the end of the month.

So, while there are quite a few big games leaving the service this month, there are also a large number of recent bangers arriving on it.
