I, like so many people out there, love a freebie. If I'm ordering something and you offer me some kind of free bonus or incentive, then you'll probably sucker me in with ease. That's why I'm so happy to see that those who purchased a PlayStation 5 directly from Sony are getting free gift codes for a number of cool avatars.
The PS5 officially launched around most of the world last week, and gamers have been busy sharing their own pictures of the console. As someone in the UK who has to wait until November 19th, I'm not green with envy at all. Anyway, multiple users who picked up their console through Sony direct have reported getting a special "thank you" note and gift card, with can be redeemed for the free avatars.

While it's not quite as exciting as a free game, it's a sweet little touch that I think most PlayStation fans will really appreciate.
"Congratulations on your PlayStation 5. The big day is finally here," the back of the card that comes with the console reads. "Thank you for your support. We really hope you enjoy your journey. As a small token of our appreciation, please visit PlayStationstore.com to redeem a special gift. Welcome to the next generation of gaming."
The code is supposed to give you eight "unique avatars" to choose from, although some players have reported they haven't been able to redeem it yet. No doubt this is something PlayStation will address and sort out for those users with the codes in due time. In the meantime, they at least have plenty of shiny next-gen video games to play. That's considerably more than I have right now as I desperately refresh my Amazon order in the vain hope that my PS5 somehow shows up early.
