January’s Essential tier PlayStation Plus freebies are now available, and you won’t want to miss out on this must-play title.

PlayStation has kicked off 2023 with a pretty fantastic lineup of free games for those subscribed to PlayStation Plus. It was confirmed late last month (after yet another completely accurate early leak) that subscribers would be able to get their hands on Fallout 76, Axiom Verge 2, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and you can claim them right now.

Be sure to play Fallen Order before the release of Jedi: Survivor if you can - the sequel is set to release in March. Take a look at the trailer below.

Fallout 76 has been vastly improved since its initial shaky release, so don’t let its old reputation put you off now that it’s free to download. As for Axiom Verge 2, if you’re unfamiliar, is a brilliant Metroidvania which can be played totally separately from its predecessor.

Let’s not get things twisted though, Jedi: Fallen Order is almost certainly the most exciting offering here. Cal Kestis’ first adventure takes place sometime between the Star Wars prequels and original trilogy, and as our in-house Fallen Order enjoyer Ewan recently wrote, it boasts some stunning areas to explore as well as juicy lightsaber combat. Given that its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, is going to be hitting PC and new-gen consoles in a couple of months, now’s the perfect time to get caught up if you weren’t already.

You have until 6 February to claim Fallen Order, Axiom Verge 2 and Fallout 76 - once they’re in your library, they’re free to play at any time (so long as you have an active PS Plus membership, that is). Otherwise, you’ll have to pay real, actual money for them, and who wants to do that? Be sure to grab them while you can.
