Xbox users warned they have under 24 hours to avoid mass deletion

Xbox players have hours at most to save their favourite game clips and screenshots before they’re deleted forever.

Last year, Xbox warned users that due to a “new policy,” game captures and screenshots saved on your system will at risk of deletion on 9 January 2024, which is tomorrow.

The new policy reads "Due to a new policy starting on October 1st, 2023, existing and new captures on the Xbox Network will automatically be deleted after 90 days, … The first deletions will start in January 2024."

As the statement says, your Xbox will automatically delete any recorded items on your console after 90 days, meaning if you want to recall some of your proudest gaming moments or savour something funny that happened online, you’ll need to ensure they stick around once the mass deletion happens.

In order to keep your Call Of Duty victories and Mortal Kombat fatalities safe and sound, you’ll need to either back them up on a different drive, or send them to your OneDrive if you have it connected to your console. Another way would be to download the Xbox app, link it to your console, and you should be able to save clips and screenshots that way.

It’s definitely a pain to have to mess around with your storage like this, but not one Xbox will do a u-turn on anytime soon.

Luckily a new setting on your console will give you the option to automatically back up your captures to separate drives, though its not the best fix as then you’re just clogging up other places instead of your internal storage.

So if you’ve got game recordings and screenshots over 90 days old that you’re dying to keep, you’ve got until tomorrow to put them somewhere safe, or lose them forever.
