A new update from Xbox promises to reduce game installation times.

Installing a new game is a mind-numbing affair.

Any excitement we may have about the game we’re so desperate to play soon turns into frustration as we wait hours for the ‘ready to play’ notification.

Not long until a new Dragon Age is here. We can't wait!

That could all be about to change though.

Xbox quietly introduced a new update for its insiders on 8 October.

In case you’re unaware, The Xbox Insider Programme is a way for members to test system updates and changes before they go live for everyone else.

The most recent overhaul they got to test was that of improved installation and download times.

Version 2410.241003-2200 implements a fix that allows your Xbox to detect updates for your games sooner, meaning they can be installed more quickly.

Furthermore, this system change is meant to create a more reliable process when said installations are in progress.

It all sounds very promising, but when will the update become available to all users not just the select few?

There’s no specific date given for when this new update will go live for the general public.

That said, Microsoft intends for it to happen before the end of the month.

We can only hope it rolls out without a hitch, unlike the last update which is still having issues it introduced ironed out.

Xbox players need a win of some form right now, as it seems that Halo is headed to the PlayStation 5.

Rumours about this aren’t new, nor is the way fans are reacting to the news.

While the division grows over whether Halo should be available on PlayStation, at least gamers can be thankful that new Halo content is coming.

We didn’t think we’d live to see Halo 2 revived like this.

At least now you’ll be able to install said downloads with greater ease... assuming the latest Xbox update works as planned.
