If you were lucky enough to get a shiny new Xbox Series X for Christmas, there are a few things you'll want to do with your console first.

Personally I'd recommend checking out Indiana Jones And The Great Circle as soon as possible, since it's one of the best games of the year. But there are also some Xbox Series X settings that are worth changing right away.

One of the best settings you can change involves greatly improving your download speeds, which as anyone who has spent hours waiting for a new game to download will know is essential.

Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure Xbox Series X is downloading to the very best of its ability.

This tip comes courtesy of YouTuber Turbo Speed WiFi, who claims that one simple change could as much as double or triple your download speed.

To achieve this easy boost, you’ll need to change your WiFi router from using the 2.4 GHz band to the 5 GHz band. A lot of you will be aware of this trick, but it's shocking how many gamers are still on the wrong band.

This is because many routers will broadcast both bands as separate networks, and your Xbox may not automatically pick up 5 GHz.

To make sure it's on 5 GHz, you’re going to start off by heading on over to your console’s settings, then select network settings. From here, you can simply select from the two options.

When Turbo Speed WiFi made the change in the tutorial, he was able to almost double his download speed whilst also giving his upload speed a boost too - and he's not the only one.

“Wow. I just tried this and went from 22 Mbps to 178 Mbps,” wrote one commenter.

One important thing to note is that 5 GHz Wi-Fi has a shorter range and is more easily blocked by objects like chairs, tables, or walls. In other words, consider where your router is in relation to your console, as making the switch may not be worth it if they're on, for example, separate floors of the house.
