Whether it’s for a bigger purpose or just out of goodwill towards gamers, Xbox has been handing out a lot of freebies at the moment.
It’s been great to see and now doubt motivated by the numerous changes going on within the company.
Xbox is starting to resemble its former self more and more and we can only hope it continues its journey of self-improvement.

As it strives to be one of gaming’s top dogs again, it’s being helped along by a wide variety of free games popping up in the official Xbox digital store, and this next one is yours for the taking.
After recently landing in the Xbox store, in addition to PlayStation and Steam, Starward is your next free-to-play title that doesn’t require one of those pesky subscription services like Xbox Game Pass to claim.

That being said, Starward is certainly an odd addition, so give us a chance to explain what it’s all about.
Starward is a 3D fighting game that, according to its description, “integrates mecha girls and classic GVG combat gameplay, with 1V1 and 2V2 modes as the core gameplay.”
It’ll no doubt appeal to two very different types of gamers.

The competitive fighting game fans will likely get a kick out of it but 2D fighters have always had more mass appeal than 3D ones like Starward.
That said, there’s bound to be some people who enjoy it and for those who like piloting mechs in games like Armored Core, this feels like your cup of tea.
Now the other target audience is one we’re all familiar with, gatcha game lovers and gooners…
Just looking at the images to go along with the game, it’s pretty clear who these characters are trying to appeal to, and given that it’s a free-to-play game, it’s bound to be teeming with microtransactions.
In fact, if you scroll down on the store pages, you’ll quickly see several options for purchasing in-game currency.
That said, we're not trying to be judgy. Everyone has their own niches and at its core, Starward looks like it’s focused on the fights more than anything.
Starward looks like an interesting game to say the least but it’s yours to claim for free if you want it, no strings attached.
