A potential price for the next Xbox console has surfaced, and if true then you may want to start saving now.
The current generation of video game consoles is now approaching five years old, and while it may feel like we’ve still got a while to go yet before we see the next gen, rumours suggest it may only be a couple more years.
With development on the PS6 well underway, as well as plenty of rumours abound regarding the next Xbox console, speculation about when the next generation will hit is at an all time high. So, be sure to take all reports and rumours with a grain of salt.
As claimed by the YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead, Microsoft has reportedly shifted its focus onto the PC market rather than directly competing with Sony.

“I don’t see Xbox Magnus as likely being a direct competitor to the next-gen PlayStation console anymore,” they stated in a video posted earlier this month. “This is due to how much more Magnus will cost to make compared to the PS6. Compared to PC gaming systems, it will be much more favorable. I definitely think it will cost more than $800. But don’t think it needs to cost more than $1,200.”
This pricing has been calculated based on previously leaked hardware that is said to make up the next Xbox’s innards. As Moore’s Law is Dead claims, other PCs and laptops which feature the same internal specs cost around $1,000.
It sounds expensive, but considering Microsoft is now wanting to corner the PC market with this, that’s actually on the cheaper end for a gaming PC. For example, modern graphics card prices already meet or exceed that amount, with Nvidia’s RTX 5080 card retailing for around $999.99.

It’s also possible that Microsoft may sell these at a loss, as has been the case in past console generations, so the price for the next Xbox could go lower.
In the meantime, Microsoft is set to release the ROG Xbox Ally this month. While not a proper substitute for a console, it’s a handheld PC in the same vein as the Steam Deck or Lenovo Legion Go.
It means that you’ll be able to play your Xbox and PC games on the go, while also taking advantage of the cloud-streaming capabilities of Xbox Game Pass.
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X launches tomorrow, 16 October 2025.
