Gameplay details for the new Fable game have leaked online, and it’s oddly reminiscent of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Xbox fans simply can’t wait to see the return of Fable, an exclusive that hasn’t had a new mainline entry since 2010 with Fable III, though you could argue the Xbox Kinect game Fable Awakening in 2012 counts too.

Check out the trailer for the new Fable game below.

Following the announcement that a new game was finally in development, we got a cinematic trailer earlier this year featuring action, heroism and some surprise celebrity talent.

Now though, some gameplay has leaked online, as Xbox insider Jez Corden has supposedly seen Alpha gameplay and reported his findings.

According to Corden, the game is looking surprisingly polished to say it’s in the Alpha stages, and saw similarities with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt during combat, as the game apparently utilises a variety of swords and magic.

It’s also said the story and gameplay will be more mature in nature, a promising sign for those who found the visuals, narrative and tone of Fable III to be a bit too light-hearted for their liking.

It sounds like the new game is going to address that critique, but by this point, I think the majority of Xbox fans will be happy with anything as long as they get another Fable game.

Whether it’ll remain an Xbox first-party exclusive or make the jump to PlayStation at this point is another question, though head of Xbox Phil Spencer has made it clear there are no barriers when it comes to porting Xbox games to other platforms.

The next Fable game is scheduled for release sometime in 2025, so it seems unlikely we’ll see any gameplay until next year, but you never know.

Perhaps something is being cooked up for the Game Awards in December.
