Halo is making a huge comeback, with new content updates for Halo Infinite and the announcement that future games in the series will be utilising Unreal Engine 5.

The new update for Halo Infinite celebrates the iconic Halo 2, adding new customisation options for your spartan based on Master Chief and Arbiter, as well as third-person firefight and a mode that replicates Halo 2’s multiplayer.

Check out the update for yourself below.

The big news though is, of course, Unreal Engine 5, as Halo Studios released images showing Master Chief in his Mark V armour from Halo: Combat Evolved which looked gorgeously realistic.

It hints that the next game in the series will be a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, possibly rebooting the franchise after the story started to deteriorate once 343 Industries took over development.

Also on the cards for the next Halo game is a PlayStation 5 launch, something that’s been rumoured for the existing Halo games for some time now.

However, speaking with Bloomberg, head of Xbox Phil Spencer has said it’s too early to determine Halo’s future on other platforms.

When discussing Xbox’s first-party titles getting ports to the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Spencer said: "I do not see sort of red lines in our portfolio that say ‘thou must not'," and while this isn’t confirmation Halo is coming to Sony’s platform at some point, it’s clearly not ruling it out either.

Years ago, the thought of Halo on a PlayStation would have been unthinkable but in recent years, Xbox has made it clear that it wants its first-party IPs to be played by more people, likely due to reduced hardware sales with tough competition from Sony.

Many fans would argue it’d be heresy to have Halo on anything but an Xbox or PC, but some have grown more open to the opportunity given how questionable the quality of the last few games has been.

Halo on PS5 would bolster the fanbase, and hopefully allow for better stories to be told due to the larger audience.
