I certainly hope you’re not an Xbox user avidly awaiting the launch of Absolum.
Guard Crush Games and Supamonks’ highly anticipated beat em’ up roguelike finally landed in recent days, on 9 October to be exact.
Released across PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 and 5, the title sees players enter the world of Talamh.
Shattered by a magical cataclysm caused by ambitious wizards, magic within Talamh has become untrusted by “the common folk”.

“Sun King Azra took advantage of this panic, enslaving wizards through his Crimson Order and placing loyal princes to rule over the conquered realms,” the synopsis reads.
“As Azra’s forces claim more and more lands, the high enchantress Uchawi and a small group of rebels rise from the shadows, wielding forbidden magic to challenge his oppressive regime and defy his absolute magic power.”
As you’ve likely guessed, you’ll play as one of those outcast heroes, fighting to bring magic back.
You’ll spend time with Galandra, Karl, Brome, and Cider as they work through ever-changing paths, fending off enemies, all brought to life via state of the art animation.

It is no surprise that Absolum has secured a very, very respectable score of 87 on Metacritic.
Try Hard Guides awarded the title a perfect score of 10, writing, “Absolum blew me away with its mastery of the side-scrolling beat-’em-up and roguelike genres, seamlessly combining the two in a game that is exceptional on a technical level and a blast to play.”
“Paired with the excellent combat and roguelike loop are phenomenal characters, great worldbuilding, and gorgeous art, making for a game that is an absolute steal at just $25,” they continued.
Unfortunately, the game has not arrived on Xbox and now we know why.

As reported by Pure Xbox, the game’s community manager shed light on exactly why that is the case.
“The team behind Absolum are about as small as our in-game resistance movement,” they began.
“Because of the team size (as with all similar titles) we have to prioritise here and there. It's pretty rare for us to release on EVERY platform and in this case, Xbox just wasn't a priority and it's not in our plans for THIS title."
Another team member added, “Hi there. Atm we're not planning an Xbox version, but who knows what the future holds."

That’s totally understandable; small teams can’t target every platform.
Even still, it’s slightly more unusual that devs don’t even seem bothered about targeting Xbox consoles post-launch.
So, if you want to try Absolum out, you’re going to need access to PC, Nintendo Switch, or PlayStation 4 or 5, as those will likely remain the only viable platforms.
