This new Xbox Series X design is seriously impressing fans, and that’s probably because it’s a bit of a throwback to one of Microsoft’s designs from the early 2000s.
You remember that time at the start of the 2000s, where every tech manufacturer was obsessed with producing “clear” versions of their products?
It was a bit of a fad at the time, but even I have to admit that it makes me feel sort of nostalgic. I owned an OG Crystal Xbox as a kid, and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
Watching the little LED lights flash on the inside, and seeing the motors whirr when you turned it on… it was just cool, and it’s kind of a shame we’ve moved away from that in the last couple of decades.

Well, some of us seemingly can’t let go, because this new take on a clear Xbox Series X is getting a lot of folks excited– including people at Microsoft.
As spotted by Pure Xbox's Fraser Gilbert, the designers over at Extreme Consoles have produced their own take on the classic design, and everyone in the comments is going wild.
“I think transparent designs are f**king awesome, and more tech companies should adopt them!” commented user @NeKit69YT.
“It’s so beautiful, put this in a museum!” replied Aaron Greenberg, VP of Games Marketing at Microsoft.

“Looks really cool but would actually unironically be better with some RGB lights inside lol,” added user @Generalkidd.
Unfortunately, it seems that Extreme Consoles aren’t actually selling this one, but given how positive the reaction has been, I’d be surprised if they don’t start selling these at some point down the line.
Here’s hoping that we go back to these types of designs in the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox hardware. I want my £600 video game consoles to look gaudy and tacky, and I’m not kidding.
