Xbox Game Pass has had a rough time this year but it’s hard to feel bad for it when it starts teasing AI features.
Xbox in general has had a poor year due to a number of silly decisions that haven’t landed well amongst consumers. Many have declared that the company has lost the console war outright, and even its shiny, new next-gen console/PC hybrid might be incapable of saving it.
Sure it’s had some winners like Game Of The Year nominees Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight: Silksong being day-one Xbox Game Pass titles but overall it’s been a poor showing.
To round-off what’s already been a difficult year, the company is now asking fans which areas of Xbox Game Pass they’d like to see AI assistance in.

Users have been sharing surveys they’ve received that ask participants to tick areas AI could be deemed useful in.
These areas include; in-game assistance, post-game performance analysis, voice commands, game recommendations, and finally gaming and account insight.
There is of course an option for none of the above too, which I’d imagine is what the majority of participants will be ticking.
I think the most worrying of the bunch would be the in-game assistance feature, as chances are the AI would lead you down the wrong path and it’d also take away the benefit of having online guides and YouTube walkthroughs to help you out with a particularly challenging game.

There’s an element of community involved that’d be lost if your Xbox started telling you where to go in Elden Ring for example.

Microsoft has been a big believer in AI for quite some time now so it’s no wonder it’s keen to trickle some of its influence into its gaming brand.
Fortunately I think we can all agree that more AI involvement in video games is a bad idea so hopefully the user response speaks volumes. Then again Microsoft could choose to ignore the survey results and go ahead with its plans anyway.

I’m sure there’s a comfortable middle ground for having advanced AI in games for the foreseeable future.
I don't think anyone wants it.
For the time being Xbox Game Pass is still a decent deal if you want to play some fantastic games.
Game Of The Year nominees aside there are plenty of bangers included and if you’re looking for a recommendation I’d suggest checking out Keeper if you haven’t already, no AI included.
