Xbox Game Pass subscribers have suffered enough this year but now they’re losing one of the best games ever made.
2025 has delivered some incredible bangers, and The Game Awards are going to be a competitive affair with so many titles deserving of the coveted trophies. There are many more that weren’t even nominated either, but unfortunately there can only be a select few up for the awards.
One standout game released this year needs no introduction, Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel finally launched this year and it’s great, though I do have my fair share of problems with it which I’ll mention briefly at the end of this article.

Silksong launched on Xbox Game Pass the same day it was released, and if you’re one of those players that tried out the game through fear of missing out, I hope to God you’ve given the first Hollow Knight game the same chance.
If you haven’t you’re running out of time to do so, as Xbox has shared the list of games that’ll soon be removed from the service, and Hollow Knight is one of them.

The full list includes; Hollow Knight, Mortal Kombat 11, PAW Patrol World, Still Wakes The Deep and Wildfrost.

Some of these games probably won’t be missed, but Hollow Knight, Still Wakes The Deep and even Wildfrost are games we’re sad to see go.
Fear not though as Hollow Knight: Silksong isn’t going anywhere, at least not for the time being.
Time is running out to play the first game if you haven’t already though, as it’ll be leaving Xbox Game Pass during the first half of this month, so get a move on if you want to play it before it goes. HowLongToBeat reckons you’ll need a spare 27 hours just for the main story alone…
Hollow Knight: Silksong wasn’t better than Hollow Knight
I’m sure that’s difficult to hear but I stand by it, Hollow Knight: Silksong isn’t better than Hollow Knight in my opinion.

The first Hollow Knight game was pretty much perfect in my eyes, and while its sequel is great it has far more teething issues.
In an attempt to make the game challenging for those who completed the first game it borders on tedium, through some of the boss designs, the lack of benches and the in-game currency.
I’m not saying it’s a bad game, I’m just saying the first one is better in my humble opinion.
So, please play it before it leaves Xbox Game Pass and you’ll hopefully see what I mean.
