Xbox Free Game Offering Is One of the Best Third-Person Shooters Ever Made

The King returns

Xbox is welcoming back one of its best games, and one of the best third-person shooters of all-time.

That’s right, Gears Of War is back following the launch of Gears Of War: Reloaded, which can be downloaded at no additional cost via Xbox Game Pass or bought separately.

In a monumental gaming moment, the game is also playable on PlayStation consoles for the first time. Between this and the Halo 3: ODST collaboration with Helldivers II, it’s safe to say the console wars are officially over.

Gears Of War: Reloaded is essentially an upgraded version of Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition, which enhanced the visuals in addition to increasing the framerate. Those who purchased Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition can upgrade to Reloaded at no additional cost.

The new port takes the enhancements further with 120fps with 4K visuals, and the multiplayer remains intact.

For those who haven’t played the game before, it begins the story of Marcus Fenix, who fights alongside his team to put an end to a war spanning the entire planet.

Featuring the iconic active reload, the combat is gory, gritty and still plays beautifully years after the game first released.

It’s the perfect time to jump into the series too. Next year will mark the release of a brand-new Gears Of War game called Gears Of War: E-Day. The new game will act as a prequel to the original trilogy, and is finally bringing back the beloved character Dominic "Dom" Santiago, who’ll serve as the game’s protagonist.

Seriously, don't sleep on this one. Gears Of War being playable on PlayStation consoles was once unthinkable and now it’s reality, and I sincerely hope this means the following two games are getting their own enhanced editions before Gears Of War: E-Day comes out.
