Xbox quietly drops free download we've all been waiting for

It only took a decade

Microtransactions can really make or break a game and with the feature becoming more and more popular in recent years, it seems as though we may never escape having to hand over our bank details.

However, for one hit 2013 action-adventure game, it seems as though Microsoft is stepping in by offering fans the chance to access in-game currency for absolutely free.

The game is Ryse: Son of Rome, “an immersive action-adventure story of struggle, brutality and heroism” which follows the story of a fearless Roman soldier named Marius Titus.

Now over a decade old, Ryse: Son of Rome may not be as popular as it once was.

However, it seems as though the game by Crytek still has a decent player base after one user recently took to r/xbox to share the exciting news.

“FYI, Ryse: Son of Rome currency is FREE…” user Galactus 83 wrote.

“You can buy as much currency as you wish. People are replying that they have millions. Great idea if you haven't finished/played yet!”

The free in-game currency can be found on the Xbox add-on page for Ryse and as the user claims, it is unlimited, allowing you to spam away and grab as much as you can.

But what is the currency needed for?

Well, Ryse: Son of Rome also has a multiplayer mode and currency can be used to upgrade your Gladiator via “loot boxes at certain tiers that will give you armour and weapons” according to user Matreid.

User Korupt_Introvert added to this by saying, “You can unlock all the executions and upgrades before you even start playing, which is awesome to play through with all that unlocked already, and then unlock everything in the arena.”

With another fan claiming that the game felt very “pay to win” when it was first released back in 2013, this seems to be a useful way to get players to return and of course, introduce new ones.

Who knows? Maybe the returning player base may just inspire a sequel…
