Xbox has had a difficult year to say the least and I can’t imagine it’ll be the last but 2026 is looking pretty bright for the gaming giant.
That’s not to say PlayStation hasn’t had its fair share of controversies of course but as far as console wars have gone it’s been the undisputed winner for many years now, and I say that as an Xbox fan myself.
Like I said though 2026 is looking bright because Xbox has quite a hefty first-party game offering lined up, and we’re thinking its next Developer Direct will highlight the one we’ve all been waiting for… Fable.
Argued to have been stuck in development hell for many years Fable is the highly-anticipated reboot of Xbox’s fantasy series, which last saw a game all the way back in 2018 with Fable Fortune.
Advert
The reboot was announced in 2020 but over five years later all we’ve seen of it is a CGI trailer, and it wasn’t one that impressed many fans.

The upcoming Xbox Developer Direct, which is scheduled for January 2026, could change that though. Since Fable was absent from this year’s Game Awards it’d make the most sense that our first proper look at the game would come in the New Year, as 2026 is when it’s supposed to launch. Personally I’m expecting another delay, but here’s hoping I’m wrong.
Xbox has a golden opportunity to win back favour with its fanbase with this Developer Direct, and in 2026 in general. It’ll need to as well because Valve’s new Steam Machine could be a direct competitor due to its enormous library of games.
What Can we Expect From the Developer Direct?
2026 is looking like a stacked year for Xbox so we can actually expect quite a bit from its upcoming showcase.
The big one for me, and many Xbox fans out there, is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the first Halo game.
We’ve already seen our fair share of the game and hands-on impressions were largely positive, so we’re hoping to see more of it soon.
Forza Horizon 6 is also on the way, but like Fable there’s no gameplay yet so that feels like a safe bet, and the same can be said for the Gears Of War prequel, Gears Of War: E-Day.
There’s a lot to look forward to, but we’ll have to wait until January 2026 to see what Xbox has up its sleeve.
