Xbox just confirmed a long-awaited update in the most ridiculous way

Is this real? We're skeptical but also hopeful it's true

Xbox is doing a lot of unusual things recently, at least as far as many of its fans are concerned. However, we believe this latest confirmation is the weirdest and arguably most ridiculous way Xbox has confirmed a long requested update.

Every day, there seems to be a new discourse to get caught up in; first it was the Xbox third-party debacle, and now it’s feared that next-gen consoles are coming too soon. Regardless of where you sit on the spectrum of these debates, we can all agree that Xbox has been at the epicentre of much of the disquiet in the gaming community.

Have you dived into the colourful world of Persona 3 Reload? If not, now is the time to check it out!

And now it’s back at the forefront of news again after Phil Spencer confirmed an update, not through official channels, but via the Xbox chat app. That’s right, Spencer decided text speak was the way to announce Xcloud playability for purchased games.

“Dropping this big of a news on Xbox App's chat is insane (in a somehow good way),” commented Redditor Halil-Heyman. Another said, “MS [Microsoft] marketing is pretty bad. This should have been mentioned in the business update, for example.”

It’s a strange move, we’ll give Xbox that. Yet it isn’t one that’s been met with much criticism. Despite worries over Xcloud servers already being “at full capacity”, this news is “huge” if it’s true. The use of Xcloud for purchased games could mean that gamers won’t lose their digital libraries, a fear that a lot of us face now that physical games are being phased out.

This “legitimately amazing” update has got many gamers “unironically hyped”, though that could be more to do with the odd choice of announcement rather than the content itself. Either way, the future of cloud playability looks bright for Xbox fans; an undeniable win after such a rough couple of weeks.

More details will undoubtedly come once Xbox is prepared to officially announce Xcloud gaming, but for now we can rest easy knowing Phil Spencer has given us a strong indication it is coming.
