Xbox as we know it is coming to an end, gamers are convinced

Excuse us while we pick out an appropriate mourning outfit

It’s the end of the world as we know it, or at least, it’s the end of Xbox as we know it. As more news comes out regarding Microsoft and its plans for exclusive games, gamers are convinced more than ever that we’ll be holding a funeral for the Xbox before long.

If your social media feeds aren’t a dumpster fire of Xbox discourse right now, we envy you – all we can see are gamers upset, hopeful, or some weird combination of the two. Needless to say, the rumours that Xbox has firmly nailed its coffin lid shut are more rife than ever.

Let's lose ourselves in Persona 3 Reload while we still can!

Not only has an insider revealed that Xbox hardware is soon to become a thing of the past, but it’s also been revealed that Starfield will be available on the PlayStation 5. To see a widely marketed exclusive head to Microsoft's main competitor, and so soon, has raised questions regarding how much longer Xbox can survive on this trajectory.

“If all games eventually come to PS6/PS5 Pro, or whatever is out there, there will be much less reasons for buying the Xbox,” said Redditor stikves. “Let's be honest, the regular consumer will go to Target and the employee will say: ‘you can buy Xbox Next, which plays Microsoft games and some 3rd party; or you can buy PS6 which plays all of them and more’. Will be worse than Wii U.”

It’s a bleak future, to be sure. Yet it’s one that others believe is fuelled by nothing but unnecessary worry born off the back of rumours; calling those who believe such tales as “moronic”.

Although such language feels far more in-keeping with Reddit, let’s not ignore how dramatically Xbox is changing – even if it isn’t “dead”, it has changed into something totally different to what it originally launched as.
