One of Microsoft’s Heads of Design has just revealed that the company is about to “wrap up” their Xbox Series line of consoles, and also teased what they’re moving onto next.
Although I think most of us would agree that it seems a little too soon for the current generation to end, it’s no secret that both Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen production is in full swing.
In fact, Microsoft outright announced that they’re partnering with AMD to produce a new series of consoles and handhelds that will “advance the next generation of gaming” back in June, so today’s news really shouldn’t come as any kind of surprise.
And yet, it still is kind of a shock to hear it straight from the mouth of one of Microsoft’s higher-ups.

As detailed in an article by Pure Xbox’s Ben Kerry, Carl Ledbetter, the Partner Head of Design at Xbox, revealed in a LinkedIn post that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles are closer to wrapping up than we may have assumed.
"As we wrap up this journey with the Xbox Series X and Series S, the mission behind these consoles echoes everything I’ve learned over 30 years — to create technology that’s powerful, purposeful, and beautifully integrated into people’s lives”, Ledbetter announced in his post.
“Xbox is about fun and playing games. The console, the controller, the headset, all of the devices become a reflection of the people who make them, but more importantly, of the people who choose to purchase and use them. These products matter to people.”
Ledbetter also stated that his “journey” at Microsoft is “far from over”, and that he is “excited and inspired by what is ahead of us”.

Interesting that Microsoft is being so open about the Xbox Series consoles winding down so early, but it does seem like the next generation of consoles is going to be a hard reset of sorts for them.
Here’s hoping they nail it this time, so they don’t have to fire any more of those people who make their consoles that Ledbetter alluded to in his post.
