The Xbox 360 has returned in the year of our Lord 2026, as if this year wasn’t full of enough surprises already.
Plenty of gamers will have nostalgia for the Xbox 360 as for a lot of people it was their first home-console.
And what a console it was, with a banger line-up of first-party games, custom avatars, and the crème de la crème, perfected online multiplayer.
Online play was a feature of the original Xbox but the Xbox 360 took it to another level, so if you miss the good old days of hopping into parties and sending voice messages to your friends keep reading.
A new website has emerged that simulates the classic look and feel of the OG Xbox Live service, allowing you to communicate with your friends just like in the old days.

The site was created by Mike Wing, who revealed it in an X post reading: “Xbox 360 let anyone record a voice message and send it to you. Microsoft then killed this feature. So I brought it back as a website.”
Now this is impressive in itself but what’s more impressive is the work that’s gone into recreating the sound these messages used to make.
As pointed out in the video accompanying the post the audio can be made to sound like your back in an old school multiplayer lobby, like that of Halo 3 or Call of Duty: Black Ops for example.
The lower mic quality sounds horrendous but it’s so nostalgic nowadays so it’s a nice touch.
There are also over 30 avatars to choose from. These are especially nostalgic to me and I’m sure other previous Xbox 360 owners will get a kick out of them too.
The blue spartan from Halo, the skull, the monkey, the kid in the beanie hat, the gang’s all here and they’ve been sorely missed.
Honestly this is the kind of charm and flavour that modern Xbox consoles lack. In fact all consoles seemingly lost their sauce when it came to dashboards and online services.
Take the Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2 for example. Sure the Miis are making a return in Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream but their functionality on the console itself is severely limited. Don’t even get us started on the lack of home-screen customisation…
If you fancy taking a trip down memory lane to simpler times be sure to check out this website, it’s a lot of fun.
