Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is finally making a comeback, that remake cancellation can’t keep the GOAT down.
Earlier this year Ubisoft underwent a major shake-up in terms of leadership and resource allocation and it led to a lot of changes in its release schedule.
The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, now officially known as Assassin’s Creed IV: Resynced, thankfully survived but other games weren’t so lucky…
One of the casualties was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake which was nearly finished and due for launch later this year before it was canned. Both fans and the developers were equally horrified and disgusted by the cancellation.
Thankfully Prince of Persia fans can rest easy, as the iconic platformer will still be making a comeback later this year on Xbox.

As part of Xbox’s 25th anniversary plans the new CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the backwards compatibility program will return.
This is great news for gamers as while there are plenty of Xbox and Xbox 360 games currently available natively on the Xbox Series X/S there are still loads that are missing.
Recently some of these games briefly appeared on the official Xbox store before being swiftly delisted again, but dataminers managed to identify them.
These are believed to be some of the first games to be brought back to the digital store for the 25th anniversary and one of them was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

At the time of writing neither Xbox nor PlayStation supports the original version of the game. In fact Sands of Time is one of the games GAMINGbible wanted to see brought back via the PlayStation Plus Classics library.

If the game is due to return but will only be available on Xbox while PlayStation catches up it’ll be a big win for Microsoft’s console and that’s not even considering what other games get brought back through backwards compatibility.
The game will likely be purchasable digitally on the Xbox store but your Series X/S will also support the original disc. So you have one lying around gathering dust now’s the time to pull it out of storage.
Sure, it might not be the remake Ubisoft promised us but we’ll take what we can get.
In an ideal world fan reception to the re-release will force Ubisoft to have the remake finished but that’s probably just wishful thinking.
