Halo fans terrified over Master Chief recast

It can't be...

Halo fans are worried that Master Chief’s voice actor, Steve Downes, might be recast in the next game.

Steve Downes has voiced Halo’s lead protagonist ever since Halo: Combat Evolved, alongside Jen Taylor who’s voiced Cortana, Dr Halsey and, most recently, The Weapon in Halo: Infinite.

See Halo: Infinite below.

While a new Halo game is in development with Halo Studios, many are concerned that neither Downes nor Taylor will return for their respective roles.

The main reason for this is both actors are on strike at the moment, campaigning for better protection and support for actors in the games industry.

While it’s unknown how far along into development the next Halo game is, if the strikes continue for much longer, it’s feared the studio could just recast the roles anyway, especially if it’s a reboot as many believe.

Halo: Infinite, despite being a step in the right direction, hasn’t done much for players in the long-run as many found the campaign to be on the boring side, but the multiplayer has retained an average playerbase.

When Halo Studios showed a glimpse of what Halo could look like in Unreal Engine 5, the shots used were of Master Chief in his Mark V armour from Halo: Combat Evolved, prompting many to speculate the next game will take things all the way back to the beginning of it all.

Hopefully, Steve Downes and Jen Taylor return to continue playing their respective characters, but if not, it might not be the worst thing in the world.

Both have had a role in the Halo franchise ever since it kicked off back in 2001, and there was always going to come a point when the series would have to continue without them, making a reboot a prime time to find new actors to step into their shoes.
