Halo Infinite has a surprise sequel with Edge of Dawn, but it’s delivered in a way that you might not expect.
Developed by 343 Industries (now known as Halo Studios), Halo Infinite was supposed to be Microsoft’s console seller, after all, this is the almighty Halo series that we’re talking about here. Halo Infinite was initially going to be the launch title for the Xbox Series X/S, but that ended up not being the case.
Following a poor reception from fans after an Xbox Games Showcase event on 23 July 2020, the gameplay reveal was so underwhelming that Microsoft delayed the highly anticipated game. Instead of releasing on 10 November 2020, it was launched on 8 December 2021.
Being delayed for over a year, at least Halo Infinite looked nicer, and it played fantastically, which was expected. However, fans were understandably not happy with the removal of the local campaign co-op and an underwhelming multiplayer offering.
Advert

Don't get me wrong, as a devoted Halo fan, Halo Infinite was fine... eventually. But it was, in my opinion, nowhere near the level of quality during the golden Bungie era.
Now, fans are awaiting the next game in the series, which will be a remake of the original game that launched in November 2001 with Halo: Campaign Evolved, and it will be released next year to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. Oh, and it’s also releasing on PlayStation 5, believe it or not.
Going back to Halo Infinite, without giving too much away, the game left on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so naturally, fans will be wondering what’s next for Master Chief, Fernando Esparza, and “Cortana”. The sequel to Halo Infinite would be released on PC and consoles, right? Well, no, it isn't.
The Fight Isn't Over for Master Chief
As brought to our attention by GameRant, Halo: Edge of Dawn: A Master Chief Story, written by Kelly Gay, is the sequel to Halo Infinite, but rather than being a video game, it’s the next release in the long-running novel adaptations.
“2560. After eliminating War Chief Escharum and sending the Banished leadership into chaos, the Master Chief continues the fight on Zeta Halo, accompanied by his new AI companion and their loyal pilot Fernando Esparza,” reads the synopsis of the novel.
“As Spartan-117 searches for scattered allied forces, a young combat medic--tortured and imprisoned for months by the Banished and the enigmatic Harbinger--may hold the key to unlocking deeper mysteries within this ancient ringworld. But every step toward answers is haunted by the sinister and elusive blademaster Jega 'Rdomnai, who is hellbent on vengeance…”
Halo: Edge of Dawn: A Master Chief Story is out now as a physical book, an audiobook and Kindle. At the time of writing, Halo: Campaign Evolved does not have a release date other than a tentative 2026 window.
