GTA VI has been called a “PlayStation Exclusive” by journalist Jason Schreier, prompting Xbox users worried about being left behind.
Rockstar Games is set to launch Grand Theft Auto VI in November later this year, and it’s set to probably be the only big thing that releases that month.
Many other developers and publishers aren’t risking dropping their game in November, in case it gets buried in the rubble that GTA VI will leave behind.
This will almost certainly impact Xbox and PlayStation’s release schedule too, with the former expected to release Halo: Campaign Evolved, Fable, and Forza Horizon 6 this year, while the latter will release Marvel’s Wolverine.

PlayStation 5 And GTA VI Are About To Be Closely Linked Together
Speaking on The Ringer-Verse podcast, in an episode titled ‘Our Most Anticipated Video Games Of 2026’, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said that “Wolverine is almost certainly going to come out in September or October. Xbox is almost a non-factor. I'm sure they'll sell millions on Xbox, but PlayStation is the main platform.”
Schreier added that: “In some ways it's kind of like a PlayStation Exclusive, that most of the sales will be on PlayStation and it will sell a lot of PlayStation 5s alongside it. So I suspect that Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA and will not release anything within the blast zone.”
It’s pretty clear to see why this might be the case. PlayStation 5 has been the preferred platform this generation, shifting 86 million units compared to 34 million Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, a lead of 52 million sales.
“The marketing campaign for GTA 6 is going to be wild,” reads one comment from a fan on the PlayStation 5 Reddit page.
“Sony is going to make sure that when people think of GTA 6 they also think of PlayStation.”
“It genuinely doesn’t need it but the marketing campaign for this game will be unlike anything else this generation. This game will crash the internet at launch,” reads another comment in the same thread.
“Makes total sense, nobody wants to get steamrolled by GTA 6's launch window," reads a third comment.
"Sony's probably gonna clear out like a 3 month radius around whenever it drops."
In terms of how Sony will capitalise on this, I can picture PS5 Pro exclusive features, and maybe a PlayStation Plus bundle for GTA VI’s online mode when that launches, that may tempt players to get one over the other.
