If you were to ask an RPG fan what their favourite video games of the last decade are, there’s a good chance that they might mention The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Baldur’s Gate 3.

Released initially in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before arriving later on new-gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch, CD Projekt’s RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a true great of the RPG genre. It’s why fans' excitement is through the roof for when The Witcher 4 finally arrives.

Then in more recent years, we’ve had Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios, a game that fans across the world cannot get enough of. In our review of Baldur’s Gate 3, GAMINGbible’s Ewan Moore said: “I have gleefully joined the ranks of Baldur’s Gate 3’s evangelical, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In a year groaning under the weight of so many exemplary games, it is frankly astounding to me how much taller Baldur’s Gate 3 looms over the rest of the pack. I’m not sure we’ll ever see anything quite like it again.”

So, what if we could blend some of the best elements of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Baldur’s Gate 3, that would surely be a dream come true, right? Well, that’s what we might get with the upcoming strategic RPG title from Artefacts Studio, Crown Wars: The Black Prince.

“The War of Crowns rages on. Knights and brigands run rampant throughout the land, sowing destruction. From your castle base, rise to become the lord who leads the battle against the forces of evil in this turn-based tactics and strategy game,” reads the description of Crown Wars: The Black Prince on the Steam store.

Judging by its gameplay trailer, Crown Wars: The Black Prince looks to have D&D-inspired gameplay which of course is an inspiration to Baldur’s Gate 3 but with the mediaeval theme akin to the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If Crown Wars: The Black Prince looks like it could be your cup of tea, you can play it now for free via its playable demo on Steam.

Crown Wars: The Black Prince will be released on 14 March 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
