It’s been yet another incredible year for gaming, and there are still so many highly anticipated releases on the way.

Little Nightmares III, Battlefield 6, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and The Outer Worlds 2 are just a few of the exciting titles landing this month, with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Kirby Air Riders, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond set to arrive after that.

One title you may not have heard of but that I think deserves your attention is the upcoming post-apocalyptic game The Cube, Save Us.

Developed by XLGAMES, The Cube, Save Us describes itself as an “action-packed, close-combat extraction game set in a post-apocalyptic world”.

“It was an era where the New Cold War loomed over the world, a time where the tiniest spark would have been all it took to tip the balance and start something ugly. It was then that the giant cube suddenly appeared in the sky,” the synopsis reads.

“What followed was quick and deadly. Global superpowers mistook it as an escalation, and soon, civilisations crumbled under nuclear warheads. Several decades passed. When the last survivors finally mustered up the courage to resurface, the cube that was still hovering in the sky swallowed them whole. The cube proved to be a two-edged sword.”

“Those who survived it came back with everything they needed to keep on surviving, while most never returned. As it is, you are left with two options. Will you face the cubes, or will you simply perish?” it continued.

It’s certainly an interesting premise.

The setting here will no doubt appeal to The Last of Us fans, although the first-person shooter action is perhaps more akin to what you’d find in The Division franchise.

The cube is reportedly made up of 27 fragments and each time you pass a cube gate, whatever that is, your environment will shift - including the horrors that reside within it.

You might go from an amusement park to a pyramid which should certainly keep things varied.

Gameplay consists of fighting off both mutants and raiders, or you can retreat to New Cinderfall, a safe settlement where friendlier raiders can help equip you or fill you in on this world’s lore.

This title isn’t quite out yet, but it is scheduled to launch before the end of 2025.

Perhaps the best part of all of this is that The Cube, Save Us is set to be a free-to-play title.

Of course, that does mean it runs the risk that it’ll be riddled with microtransactions but I’m personally going to keep an open mind at this stage.

It’s only due to launch on PC right now, so if you like the sound of what’s in store, consider giving the title a wishlist to support devs.
