The Steam Machine might finally be getting a new announcement soon, that’s at least according to an update on the PC digital store.
Valve announced the new Steam Machine in November 2025, and while this could be considered as a competitor to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the graphical and performance power of the new console is likely to blow any of its rivals out of the water, in that respect.
However, what will likely make the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S compete with the Steam Machine’s power is its price. While not officially confirmed by Valve, at the time of writing, it's rumoured that the Steam Machine could cost anywhere between $800 to $1,000 (£600 and £750).
However, as hype for the Steam Machine was picking up momentum, that hype was somewhat halted after Valve announced that it was getting delayed due to worldwide RAM shortages.
Thankfully, there does appear to be some at the end of the tunnel, which is what backend data on the Steam store leads us to believe.

“Valve uploaded the 'steam_controller_unboxing_2026' app ID on Steam, and you can add it to your library. The play button opens the unavailable video in a browser,” tweeted gabefollower, accompanied by images of the discovery.
As of right now, we can only speculate. But it doesn't feel outside the realm of possibility that Valve has updated the Steam store to prepare for a new Steam Machine reveal. However, the most likely scenario right now is that Valve is releasing a standalone controller that is compatible with Steam games.
No, unfortunately, Half-Life 3 still hasn't been confirmed. While mostly in jest, many commenting on the tweet above hope that the long-awaited next entry in the iconic series will be a launch title for the Steam Machine.
“IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING,” yelled OmniMain.
“ANY DAY NOW!” exclaimed Liquidoon.
“VALVE! RELEASE THE STEAM CONTROLLER AND MY WALLET IS YOURS!” pleaded Jamskins, with an image of Kratos from God of War, begging the gods.
“Looks like we'll get the controller first, then the Gabe cube, and only then VR…,” predicted Pixeless.
As soon as Valve announces the release date and price for the Steam Machine, we’ll be sure to let you know. Oh, and of course, the same goes for Half-Life 3.
