A new idle game added to Steam has been called “highly addictive” by fans, with many recommending other players to try it out.

Many people enjoy the idle genre for the fact that it allows them to sit back do relatively little, while still being able to engage in game mechanics. Simply put, number goes up and brain feels good.

That’s a bit of an oversimplification, but given the wide popularity of the idle genre on platforms like Steam, there’s clearly something about it that is enticing to certain gamers.

It appears as though a new idle game is making the rounds at the minute, too. Upload Labs is a new idler and management game where you build and optimise a computer system. Connect and configure different nodes that allow you to download, process, and upload files.

As the Steam description reads:

“Welcome to the Labs! In Upload Labs you are tasked to save the universe from the inevitable heat death. Use your ingenuity and power to build optimized systems using a node-based system. These nodes are window-like interfaces representing components and processes within your computer. You will connect nodes from output to input to control resource flow and data pipelines.”

Steam reviews are calling the game “highly addictive”, and with a 90% positive review score rating (as of writing), it’s safe to say this is a hit with the players.

“Very well put together and highly addictive. There's a ton of content and replay value hidden behind the seemingly simplistic nature of the game,” reads one review. “It's free, DLCs aren't pay to win. Give it a shot.”

“Just started playing, this has a lot of potential,” reads another positive review. “Reminds me a lot of shapez.io in a good way. I wish I could zoom out more but it's not a huge deal. More tool tips would be nice but it's also fun to figure things out.”

“Absolute Banger of a game. Creativity goes brrrrr,” a third review reads. “I love how optimised this is and how much effort has been put into this game. Looks absolutely minimalistic and beautiful and the gameplay is just pure addiction. I can't stop.”

If you do decide to check it out, try not to get too absorbed in the game. As fun as a six-hour gaming session can be, video game addiction can become a problem if left unchecked. Make sure you’re not neglecting any real life responsibilities.
