Steam’s latest new obsession looks to be an incredible amount of fun for only £2.49, which is probably why it’s earned itself one of the most impressive review scores I’ve seen in quite some time.

Do you wish the guns in Battlefield were voice-activated? Did you enjoy Hogwarts Legacy, but wish there was an alternate mage-focused game that took itself a bit less seriously?

In that case, the latest game to explode in popularity on Steam might just be the very thing you’ve been looking for, which is handy considering it’s currently 50% off.

Mage Arena is an early access PvP wizard game on Steam, with an "Overwhelmingly Positive" review score (95% of the reviews of which are positive, with over 3,300 reviews as of writing).

It sounds absolutely ridiculous, in the best possible way. There’s either a 4v4 or a 1v1 mode, and all of the spells in the game are voice-activated. That means you have to quite literally shout stuff like “fireball!” down the mic to attack.

I think the reviews on Steam do a much better job of explaining why this one is fun than I ever will, though.

"Insanely good proof that a fun game concept will always beat graphical fidelity", writes Steam reviewer Joker.

“Joined a game, went out the castle, heard "Biden blast" my entire screen was then purple and i died 10/10 would get blasted by Biden again”, commented Steam user RealStubz.

“I love this game already, didn't realize how much of a wizard I wanted to be and I want absolutely more of it!” replied Steam reviewer mr_the_tiger.

“I hope this continues to grow and gets bug fixed, More Spells, more wizardry outfits. The casting of spells makes this a very fun and interactive game with other people. It's good for a laugh and good for being goofy.”

If you are interested in giving Mage Arena a try, the devs have noted on Steam that it’s currently 50%, down to £2.49, while they fix “a large number of bugs”.

Sounds like an absolute steal to me.
