Steam gamers furious over wild new pricing

How much?!

Steam gamers are furious over wild new pricing that could prove to be very costly for an upcoming fantasy RPG.

It can be expensive to maintain our hobby of playing video games, especially when we hit the Christmas period and the couple of months that follow into the new year. However, the price of this upcoming fantasy RPG on PC and Xbox has caught many games by surprise.

Check out the Avowed trailer below!

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the studio that brought us the critically acclaimed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds to name a few has its next RPG, Avowed, releasing early next year.

Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, Obsidian Entertainment will be hoping that Avowed will join the ranks of its other beloved RPGs. Whether that goal is achieved, only time will tell.

Avowed will be available at no extra cost with a subscription to PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one. You can also buy the physical game, so you don't have to rely on a subscription to play it.

Digitally, Avowed will also be available to purchase on platforms such as the Xbox Games Store, Battle.net and Steam, the latter of which has sent some gamers into a frenzy.

“Avowed out-of-mind regional pricing,” exclaimed Reddit user thekinkbrit. “No way I'm going to get this at this price.”

According to SteamDB, in the US dollar, the most expensive place to buy the standard edition of Avowed is Switzerland which works out to be around $83 compared to the US price of $69.99.

Yet the cheapest place to buy the game on Steam is in South Asia for a mere $22.99, according to current estimated conversion rates. As for the UK, it’s $75 but in our currency, it’s a flat £59.99, which is roughly £5 more expensive than the US.

“The US is likely without tax, but still, wow. I ain't spending even €60 on a game, let alone €80. Get sailing, my friend Efrayl said.

“That's another game after Starfield, that people won't buy simply because of the price. This price is like 10% of the minimal wage in Poland,” replied SenmiMsS.

As much as we love to own our games, perhaps Game Pass might be the best course of action to save our money, especially if Avowed releases below expectations.

Avowed will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S on 18 February 2025.
