One of Steam’s latest games seemingly draws a lot of its inspiration from The Last of Us, making for an exciting zombie-survival game you can try for free now.
The Last of Us is one of the greatest games PlayStation has ever published, so it’s no surprise that fans are going feverish for The Last of Us Part 3.
It’ll still be several years out, unfortunately, as at the time of writing, Naughty Dog is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the Last of Us TV series’ third season isn’t due until 2027.
For something to play right now though, check out The Left Behind, which you can currently try for free on Steam and might just scratch that survival game itch you’re feeling.
The Left Behind is described as “a solo and co-op post-apocalyptic survival game. Explore a typical Dutch open-world landscape during the day and beware of hordes of enemies coming in at night. Loot and hunt to survive. Each night, the game becomes increasingly challenging. How long will you survive?”

Perhaps we’re in the minority here but it sounds like the best of The Last of Us, the exploration, but as a full game.
As much as people had their gripes with The Last of Us Part II, exploring Seattle with Elie and Dina was great fun. Looting all the different stores and learning their stories didn’t just keep you stocked up for the road ahead but expanded the story.

The Left Behind is all about exploring buildings and picking up anything that isn’t nailed down, and doing that with a friend while you’re pursued by the undead sounds like a blast.
Sure, you can have the same experience with games like DayZ but they can feel like such a slog to get started with. There’s definitely a learning curve
You can also argue the game is nowhere near The Last of Us in terms of graphics, but hey, graphics aren’t everything.
If you’re at all interested in checking The Left Behind out, there’s a free demo available now to give you a taste of what’s to come.
Those who end up liking what they play won’t have to wait too long for the full release either as it’ll launch later this year on 27 July.
It’s worth a go, especially while it’s free to try, and with the next Last of Us game so many years away, there’s not much else to check out in the meantime.
