Stardew Valley is beloved by many cosy gamers, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim very much a behemoth of the RPG genre.
If you’re a fan of both games, there’s a very likely chance that you’ll enjoy what Freelands has to offer, a new cosy kingdom management game that’s dropped a free demo on Steam.
Developed by Pixelcircle, Freelands boasts a pixel art aesthetic and sees players transform a small settlement into a mighty kingdom, combining cosy gaming and RPG elements.
“At the beginning, you are just a stranger. No one gives you a title, no one expects you,” the synopsis reads.

“But there are decisions to be made, order to be established, and people to manage. Every step you take, every reputation point you earn, brings you closer to greater responsibility.
“Each city knows you differently. In one place you might be a respected leader, while in another, you might just be a stranger.
“The decisions you make directly affect the economy, the trust of the people, production chains, and political balances.”
Throughout the game, you’ll need to manage resources, distribute your growing workforce, establish the direction of your settlement, set up trade networks and more as you progress from a village to a city.
Your settlement will very much evolve based on your decision-making with various regions of the game’s world reacting differently to your presence as you form political and economic bonds.

With that in mind, there’s an element of Civilization at play here too.
It’s very much up to you whether you're a supportive ruler or prefer exploiting your people.
While Freelands is yet to pin down a release date, you can enjoy that free demo on PC storefront Steam right now, as mentioned.
There’s no word precisely on how long the demo runs for, but it should give you ample time to see whether the game’s various systems are for you.
If you enjoy what you play, you can then wishlist Freelands to be kept up to date on its progress.
There’s plenty else out though if it fails to leave you impressed.
For example, over on the Epic Games Store, PC gamers can currently nab two wonderful adventure games, Down to Bermuda and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.
You may also want to check out a new free-to-play RPG that’s landed on Steam that some players proclaim is perfect to play in short bursts if you’re low on time.
Personally, I always recommend Palia too as a great free cosy game that many people overlook.
It recently launched its largest expansion to date which is also free, so it’s worth checking the game out.
All gaming platforms offer freebies from time to time, but arguably no one has it better than PC gamers.
