Steam has dropped some free games that you can download and play right now, and it includes a charming RPG inspired by classic The Legend of Zelda.
During the never-ending cost-of-living crisis, we’ve got to save money whenever we can. It’s why subscription services can be a solid tactic to save money, with the monthly cost being much less than a newly released AAA game, and we get tons more games to play from the respective libraries to boot.
That being said, sometimes we just like to play a free game with no strings attached, especially when it's weeks away from payday, when buying a brand new game could be out of the question. Which brings us to the free Steam games that you can check out right now.

As brought to our attention by the X account, Free Steam games, you can download and play these games today, and it includes the aforementioned Zelda-inspired RPG, that’s more akin to the classic games of the 90s. So, let’s begin with that very game.

The Apprentice (which thankfully has nothing to do with Donald Trump or Alan Sugar) is developed by Quite a Coven and has vibes of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which was originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1991.
“Lost in an alien world, harness the power of runes to find your way home. Craft innovative spells, tackle intricate puzzles and uncover ancient magic. An immersive puzzle-adventure experience where exploration, strategy and discovery await,” reads the synopsis.
At the time of writing, The Apprentice has a “Positive” Steam user rating, taken from 10 reviews. “Very fun puzzle game, short and sweet,” wrote Chrom.
Next up is Dracula 2, developed by GNOMEPUNK. This game only launched this month, and already it has a “Positive” rating too, from 10 Steam user views. It kinda looks like a quirky blend of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Undertale.
“Dracula is trapped, and you have to help him escape, or else he will never escape in this sequel to Bram Stoker's beloved novel,” its Steam description reads.
The other remaining game does not have a Steam rating, due to it not having the minimum requirement of 10 user reviews right now, but that doesn't mean it doesn't at least look fun. So let’s not dismiss it just yet.
Estrada Real - Caminho das Almas is a top-down RPG that looks to be a throwback to the Commodore 64 games of the 1980s. It’s a game of “corrupted souls” and “ancient magic”, inspired by the Brazilian folklore of Minas Gerais.
There’s no expiry date on any of the free Steam games above, so you’re in no hurry to check them out. But hopefully, at least one of them will help keep you busy until the next payday arrives.
