Minecraft is easily one of the most impressive sandbox games out there, with very little challenging its dominance within the genre.

There are alternative titles though if you do need a break from Mojang’s gaming behemoth.

Everwind is a perfect example of which blends Minecraft’s voxel-based open-world with Elder Scrolls-esque combat.

Or perhaps if you’re looking for something that won’t cost you a penny, you might want to sample the new free-to-play PC launch Agro Life.

Developed and published by Nosatskyi Games, Agro Life offers a low-stakes, low-poly experience akin to Minecraft albeit with the farming focus of something like Stardew Valley.

Agro Life Launches On Steam Today, And It’s Free

In Agro Life, players will “build, grow, and manage your own countryside life”.

“Start with a small plot of land and turn it into a thriving farm filled with crops, animals, and handcrafted structures,” the synopsis reads.

As it makes use of a low-poly art style, Agro Life isn’t quite as, say, pretty as other cosy titles out there but that’s arguably one of its biggest charms.

There’s a wonderful simplicity that comes with the low-poly art style that can facilitate some really relaxing gaming sessions.

Players will need to plant and harvest crops, look after livestock, gather resources, craft tools, and expand their settlement - many of the things you’ll likely have done in Minecraft.

You won’t be hunted down by creepers here as there’s no combat present in Agro Life.

However, players can venture out into the open-world where they can hunt, fish, and trade with a variety of NPCs.

In fact, devs specifically state that Agro Life can be both a “peaceful farming [sim]” and an “active survival-style experience”. It’s completely what you want it to be.

As I said, Agro Life is completely free-to-play and is only available via PC storefront Steam.

The game launches today, 1 April - and no, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day joke.

Given that the game launches today, there’s clearly no review consensus yet, so it’ll be interesting to see whether players warm to this new offering.

If it doesn’t prove to be for you, there’s plenty of new Minecraft content on the way to keep you occupied in the coming years.

Minecraft World, a new themed land, was announced for Chessington World of Adventures in the UK, plus new game Minecraft Dungeons II was revealed - and it’s launching this year.

This is all alongside the previously confirmed A Minecraft Movie 2, and we can always rely on Mojang to drop new updates for the base game.
