Steam users are ending the year on a high, taking a recently launched free game into the stratosphere.

I'd be the first to admit that a lot of the free games you can find on Steam are a bit... naff. Either they're lumbered with pay-to-win nonsense or else simply not very good, there's almost always a catch. Not here though, my friends.

Take a look at the Steam Deck in action below!

If you've yet to play The Finals, you absolutely should. This free-to-play shooter is available right now on Steam, but is also free to check out on PlayStation and Xbox, if you prefer. Your call, really. I don't know your life.

"Join The Finals, the world-famous, free-to-play, combat-centered game show," reads the game's Steam store description. "Fight alongside your teammates in virtual arenas that you can alter, exploit, and even destroy. Build your own playstyle in this first-person shooter to win escalating tournaments and lasting fame."

There's a very good chance you really don't even need me to tell you to check this game out, given it's the top trending game on Steam at the time of writing. It's also currently in Steam's top ten most played games, smashing its way past the likes of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It'll be interesting to see if developer Embark Studios can keep up the momentum, or if this is just a flash in the pan.

I'd suspect the former, given reviews are mostly positive, with over 46,000 Steam users praising the shooter.

"Just played with my boys for three hours straight," one reviewer notes. "Didn't win a damn thing. Had a great time anyway."

For now, if you're looking for something new to play with friends over the Christmas period, you could do a heck of a lot worse than The Finals.
