It’s been a busy year for games, with so many top-tier bangers landing in the first half of 2025, and the rest of the year looks stacked, too.

September holds a few to keep your eye on, and one game is already garnering a lot of attention, also receiving a free demo on Steam.

Hell is Us has been doing the rounds in previews and streamer events, building hype for another gritty shooter, and it’s looking quite impressive.

If you want to try it out, Steam has a demo up on the store page, but it will be leaving soon.

As long as you add it to your library, you’ve still got some time to play.

Developed by Rogue Factor, Hell is Us is an action shooter where the Earth has fallen to a mysterious calamity, showing the very worst of civilisation.

Billed as a game that “combines intense melee combat with the thrill of exploration,” this adventure seems chock-full of action, but also a layered story that focuses on the brutality of life.

The Creative Director on the project, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, notes, “The central theme of Hell is Us is that human violence is a perpetual cycle fuelled by human emotions and passions.”

The pacing seems slow, forcing the player to think and adapt, and this is shown in the game’s lack of map and compass, or even quest markers.

You’re supposed to drink in every detail, hang on every word, and find your own way.

It may prove divisive, or difficult for many, but Hell is Us is set to be one of 2025’s biggest games, and it looks the part too.

It’s moody and dank, yet filled with eerie beauty, along with some gorgeous design and art.

If this isn’t on your radar, it should be, and you might as well get started with that demo.
