This brand new free demo download on Steam looks like a fun mix between Valheim and The Last of Us, and it seems like it’s being produced almost entirely by a solo developer.
The Left Behind is an upcoming third-person zombie survival shooter on Steam from developer and publisher Trudex, set to drop at some point later this year in 2025.
However, there’s no need to wait to get your hands on the game early, as the developer just released a demo for the title last night.

There’s not enough reviews yet to form any kind of meaningful consensus on its quality, although the only negative reviews I could find only directly mention bugs and glitches (which will assumedly be ironed out before the full release).
Although it appears to be a pretty standard take on the perma-death, Valheim-esque formula, the game does have one pretty cool thing that sets it apart from other games I’ve seen; it’s set in The Netherlands!
Honestly, cannot remember the last time I played or even heard of a game that was set there. I think Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had a Netherlands stage, does that count?
The most impressive thing about the project is that it seems to have been developed entirely by one person, at least if the development logs on The Left Behind’s YouTube channel are anything to go by.

Personally, I think the game looks fine enough as it is, based on the snippets of gameplay on the Steam page, but for a solo developer, this is incredible work. I’ll be keeping an eye on Trudex’s work down the line.
No exact release date I can see anywhere for the full game, and it does appear to be a Steam exclusive for the time being, but I hope the dev takes all the time they need on this one. This could be the start of a very impressive career in the games industry.
