Steam drops free download for game you'll struggle to put down

Hope you've got some free time, because you're gonna need it

A sequel to one of Steam’s most un-put-downable games just got a free demo, and I’m ready to lose dozens of hours of my life all over again.

Monster Train 2 is an upcoming sequel to, you guessed it, Monster Train, a rougelite card battler that dropped back in 2020.

Both games were developed by Shiny Shoe, and the original Monster Train is currently sitting at an “Overwhelming Positive” score on Steam with over 18,000 reviews, 96% of which are positive.

And now, Monster Train 2 finally has a new demo. There are no reviews for the title on Steam as of now, but folks in a thread over on the r/MonsterTrain subreddit are thrilled with the changes that the devs have made to the original game.

“It feels different enough to justify a new game and not a simple DLC. However it is very familiar and in the direct line of the 1st game, which I think is a good move,” commented user adrenozin.

“I think most people want "Monster Train but with new stuff" and that's what they seem to be delivering at the moment. We'll know more when it releases.”

“Tried demo. I can already tell I’m gonna fall off the face of the Earth when full game is out,” replied user supersteez.

Monster Train 2 doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it is set to release sometime in 2025. Considering how polished the demo is though, I wouldn’t be surprised if that release date isn’t far off.

However, if you simply can’t wait after playing the demo, then I have good news. The OG Monster Hunter is currently 90% off on Steam, and the Monster Train: The Last Divinity expansion is also 85% off, so you can snag both for less than the cost of a Tesco meal deal.
