Steam makes controversial game free to keep before it's gone forever

Might as well give a try

Steam is giving away another game, making it completely free to download and keep forever, but you may want to check the details on this one.

SERAPH: In the Darkness seems to be a contentious game, controversial in many ways, according to those who have played it.

Before we get into the details, let’s at least try to sell you on the idea of the game, which is an ARPG with hack-and-slash combat, filled with demons and devils to hunt.

On the surface, it looks like a Diablo facsimile, but when we delve deeper, the community throw up some very valid points.

SERAPH is being offered for free because the servers are shutting down, and it’s likely a bid to get players to preserve the game.

Firstly, this game is riddled with AI-generated assets, as noted on the Steam store page.

One player notes, “Amateurish voice acting. It's not bad per se, just the voice actors likely need more experience,” but it turns out it’s all AI, and not real actors.

The loading screens? Also, AI. NPC portraits in-game? Ditto. Even the store page has AI assets all over it.

This Steam review sums it up, “Crap game, with pay to win elements introduced before an actual game. Uninstalled, blocked from steam. Stupid of me to try it.”

It seems that the game offends in so many areas; being unfriendly to newcomers, pulling mechanics from other franchises, crypto nonsense, and, to some, feels like a cash grab.

There are some positive experiences, but most players take umbrage with the AI implementation and the insertion of crypto schemes and NFTs.

While it’s a controversial one, for sure, it’s always tempting to at least try these things, so if you fancy having a look, make sure to grab it before it’s gone.
