We all know that gaming can be a very expensive hobby, but it doesn’t have to be.
The latest AAA releases are guaranteed to gobble up our hard-earned cash, but there are plenty of offers, deals, and giveaways out there that are much kinder on our wallets.
If you’re a PC gamer, Steam is the place to go. While this storefront is home to plenty of stellar deals, it’s also chock full of some lovely free-to-play delights.

The ever-reliable SteamGamesPC has brought the six latest free-to-play offerings to our attention and those are Nine Realms, Project Entropy, Obilia, Simulation Training, Panda: Eats, Shoots and Leaves and SMYS.
Unsure which to dive into? Worry not. I’m here to help explain exactly what each game consists of kicking off with Nine Realms.
Europa just launched a free demo on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Developed and published by Meta Sapien Games, Nine Realms is a hack n’ slash roguelike. “The body of the thunder god has been taken over by the most cunning god of the universe. Find the gods hidden in different realms and destroy them all until you are the only god left standing,” reads the synopsis.

In fact, you essentially embody the essence of Ragnarök itself. Unfortunately, you can only play the prologue for free but with ‘Mostly Positive’ reviews from players, that might just be enough to convince you to nab the whole thing.
Next up is Project Entropy. This one’s developed by FunPlus International AG and is essentially a strategy RPG set in space.
“Welcome, commander, to Project Entropy - the ultimate Sci-Fi and role-playing game with space battles. Immerse yourself in this MMO experience where you'll command alien civilisations, conquer uncharted planets, and build Hero fleets,” reads the description.
Moving onto Obilia. This one was developed by Blockville Digital Assets and is unfortunately showing a few teething issues whilst it’s in early access.

It’s a single-player RPG where players explore “an archipelago of tomorrow dedicated to humanity's legacy and imagination”. The general premise sounds delightful but players warn that the game currently has a very high level of mouse sensitivity. It looks well worth keeping an eye on though.
Simulation Training essentially allows you to kill zombies time and time again on a training room loop. It’s not exactly the most exciting premise but I can certainly see it appealing to those who just want to drop in every now and then and practice their first-person shooting skills.
Initial F Studio’s Panda: Eats, Shoots and Leaves probably has the oddest title on this list. This one’s a VR platformer so you will need a compatible device.
“Dive into lively mud water gun fights with other pandas, leveraging VR's innovative motion to effortlessly navigate amusement rides, from roller coasters to trampolines. This exuberant mud battle offers opportunities to bond with new friends and create joyous, memorable experiences,” reads the description. It does sound very fun if you can overcome the VR hurdle.

Finally, we have SMYS. Created by StarvingFox Studio, this one’s a two to four local multiplayer stair building race game which sounds odd on paper, but I can see this being very funny indeed when everybody’s competitive side is unleashed.
That brings us to the end of the list so hopefully, something there appeals to you. When the games are free, you’ve got nothing to lose so give them a go.
