Steam users can claim an absolute banger for free, but you only have 48 hours to download it on your PC to keep forever.
I’d assume many of us wouldn't turn our noses up at a free game, especially one that is beloved by the community and during a time when maintaining our hobby of playing video games is more expensive than it's been in years.
Subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass are great ways to save money. A monthly subscription is cheaper than a full-priced, newly released AAA title, but claiming a game for free with no catch is always a bonus.

One such game is an indie darling released in 2013, developed and published by Image & Form Games. That game in question is the metroidvania-inspired, action-adventure, SteamWorld Dig.
“SteamWorld Dig is an action-adventure puzzler with strong metroidvania influences set in the SteamWorld Universe,” reads the synopsis of the game, rated “Very Positive” on Steam, and has a score of 82 on Metacritic.
“You’ll need to dig deep into the earth, gather resources to upgrade your tools and abilities, take on enemies, solve challenging puzzles and uncover the secrets to save a dying town.”
To give you the best idea of what the community thinks of SteamWorld Dig, here’s what they had to say:

“A very well-made game. Not too short or too long. Getting 100% of achievements is a nice challenge without being too difficult,” said Steam user Finix.
“Very short and doesn't overstay its welcome, yet a bit light on the metroidvania elements,” explained RadMaximilian.
“The second game is definitely better, but this is still more than worth the 89 cents I paid for it on sale..... RIGHT BEFORE it became FREE!” exclaimed *John.
If you want to claim SteamWorld Dig for free, make sure you do so before 26 June 2025. After which, it returns to its modest price of £7.19.
