Farming simulators are almost notorious for how comfortable they are to play. Whether that be harvesting crops, serving customers or upgrading buildings, it's a genuinely stress-free way to play video games.
As such, you might not expect those games to match up particularly well with the horror genre, but if a new free download on Steam is to be believed, it could be a very potent combination indeed.
Harvest Scream puts players in the first-person shoes of a fledgling farmer who is looking to establish themselves in the agricultural space and make a go of operating things entirely solo.
All well and good until you realise that it's all actually a simulation that you have been forced into by the nefarious forces you work for in the real world. And this simulated world is not particularly kind to farmers.

Along the way you'll have to survive terrifying night attacks from monsters, strange encounters from visitors, bizarre weather anomalies and even choices that affect how the game plays out.
The developers have even made it clear that Harvest Scream does feature a romance of sorts, though what exactly that looks like is unclear.
The game is current labelled as "coming soon" on Steam, with no real indication as to when we'll see the full extent of the release.
It's not all bad news though, as a free demo is available right now and it should offer more than enough to let you know whether you like the game. The demo features around 45 minutes of gameplay, though it isn't feature complete, with fishing not currently included.

If any of that sounds like it might appeal, there is quite literally no risk involved in giving it a go. That's presuming you don't have an accident when that first anomaly appears while you're harvesting blueberries.
