Stardew Valley meets Fable in gorgeous free Steam download you can grab now

Fans of Stardew Valley and Fable can rejoice to learn that this upcoming RPG farming sim combines the best of both worlds.

If you love the simple farming life in Stardew Valley but crave more of a story like in Fable, Mirthwood combines the two to create an immersive medieval fantasy world where players will have to both build a homestead but also pick up a sword and head out on the adventurer's path.

Developed by Bad Ridge Games and set to release in Q3 of 2024, Mirthwood is an “enchanting RPG life sim” taking place across a continent swept with war. However, your arrival spells the beginning of a new start and in this medieval sandbox world, you can choose who you want to be.

If you are more of a homebody, you can choose to manage your homestead, grow crops, build a farm, rear animals and upgrade your facilities. Any goods you curate can be traded in the town and this peaceful life will still have its challenges.

However, if you are more of an adventurer, you can take up your weapon and go toe-to-toe with werewolves and bandits in combat. By levelling up your character, you can find yourself becoming the most formidable foe in Bleakwood.

With hand-drawn graphics, immersive sound effects and an original music score, Mirthwood’s open world will see you get lost within its six diverse regions. Each with their own unique style, you will experience everything from extreme weather to disease as you fight to survive.

Before you ask, yes there is romance. The Sims-style interaction system can see you either befriend or insult the local townsfolk and even grow a relationship with one of the many NPCs around the world. Whether you chat, jest, romance, gossip or influence, being social is just as important in the world of Mirthwood.
