Stardew Valley meets Zelda and Skyrim in new free RPG

It's time for a new adventure

Looking for something new to play this weekend? Forget about your backlog and lean in closer, my friend.

I’d like to direct your attention towards Naica, a new MMORPG which has launched on Steam and mobile.

Oh, and it just so happens to be completely free.

Naica is described as an “8bit fantasy cross-platform MMORPG where you take on the role of a lowly adventurer trying to assist those in peril”, and is developed and published by FAT SLU.

There’s definitely a Zelda vibe within that description, although Naica boasts a Stardew Valley-esque art style.

Players will need to “fight, collect or explore what the world of Naica has to offer” where “secrets lie behind every corner”.

“The world needs your help adventurer, will you answer the call?” it asks.

Throughout the game, you’ll explore various biomes, fight through dangerous caves, uncover plots, create your own character, and befriend the world’s inhabitants.

Naica does remain in early access, so you should expect an experience that perhaps needs a few kinks ironed out by the developer.

Already through, Naica has secured a ‘Mostly Positive’ review score on Steam with 72% of players enjoying their experience.

“So far game has been enjoyable. It seems like a casual friendly MMORPG with an active dev team. F2P, no cash shop, can't really complain,” read one review.

“Even though it's still in Alpha, I really enjoyed the game for its simplicity, unique style, and overall practicality. It seems to focus mainly on completing quests and gathering resources while levelling up your gear,” another added.

Others criticised the game’s hitboxes but hopefully that’s something that the devs will soon be seeing to, if they’re taking on player feedback.

Given that Naica is free, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give this one a go if it sounds up your alley.

The most you’ve got to lose is a little bit of time, but you may just end up unearthing your next timesink.
