Stardew Valley remains the king of cosy farming and life-simulators, yet plenty of rivals have surfaced to boot the game off its throne.
One of the latest is Stardew Valley with a spooky twist, as instead of charismatic villagers, you’ll instead live alongside vampires, werewolves and other things that go bump in the night.
It’s got a bit of an Animal Crossing vibe, so If we’ve piqued your interest keep reading, as you’ll be able to try the game for free on Steam.
Moonlight Peaks is an upcoming PC game you’ll find on Steam. It falls into that cosy game category that titles like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing dominate but distinguishes itself with a gothic-horror premise.
It’s no Resident Evil though. Nobody is going to get beheaded or flayed alive in this game. For that, you’ll want to check out Grave Seasons…

No, in this game you’ll co-exist alongside a variety of supernatural creatures as you embrace your darker side.
Moonlight Peaks’ description reads: “Welcome to your new vampiric life in the magical town of Moonlight Peaks. Raise mystical crops, learn spell-casting and potion-making, and befriend – or even romance – the local werewolves, witches, and mermaids in this heartwarming supernatural life-sim. Eternity awaits!”

The promise of werewolf romance is a bold endorsement but hey, we’re not judging. The spellcasting and magical plant growing also sounds pretty fun.
Whether it’ll hold up to the likes of Stardew Valley remains to be seen but some of the previews we’ve seen so far are favourable, so we could be onto a winner here.
You’ll be able to play the game on PC via Steam later this year, with a release date of 7 July currently planned.
If you just can’t wait to sink your teeth into this title though, you'll be glad to hear that you can play it for free right now before launch.
A free demo is currently available on Steam which will probably take you through the opening hours of the game. The part where you travel to your new home and meet some of the residents you’ll come to know, perhaps even love. Who knows, perhaps it’ll be your new obsession.?
However, if you give Moonlight Peaks a go and decide it’s not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other games out there that’ll give you a Stardew Valley fix, without just loading up Stardew Valley again.
Sunkissed City is looking like a fun alternative and it drops later this year too. You’ll trade your peaceful life on a farm for the hustle and bustle of the big city, which surprisingly feels like a refreshing change of pace.
If you want something a bit more familiar though, keep an eye out for ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley successor title, Haunted Chocolatier, which we recently got a fresh look at courtesy of the man himself.
