When it comes to epic RPGs in a fantastical world, it doesn't get much better than Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED.
If you asked a large group of gamers which is the best between Skyrim and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there’s a good chance that it would be a close call. That being said, you don’t need to choose, because both RPGs can (and should) be in your collection.

However, there is one other fantastic RPG that is worth your attention, but sadly, it might have been forgotten about over time. That game is Gothic, originally developed by Piranha Bytes and released in 2001 on PC.
Thankfully, if you want to play Gothic, but a modernised version, then you’ll be pleased to know that a full remake powered by Unreal Engine 5, is releasing later this year, developed by Alkimia Interactive.
“The Legend is Back - Return to the Valley of the Mines in this faithful remake of the genre-defining classic RPG,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam. “Explore a hand-crafted, organic open world that reacts dynamically to your actions in a gritty, unrestricted experience like no other.”
As brought to our attention by DSO Gaming, while Gothic 1 Remake does not have a confirmed release date at the time of writing, other than it will arrive at some point this year, you can at least download and play its free prologue right now.
That being said, to keep notified of when the full version of Gothic 1 Remake is ready to launch, be sure to wishlist it on Steam.
Gothic 1 Remake will also be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
