Skyrim and Witcher fans should check out this new upcoming RPG with jaw-dropping visuals.

Alkahest is a new first-person role-playing game that may appeal to fans of Skyrim and The Witcher. It also has very heavy Dark Messiah inspiration as indicated by some of the visuals and character designs.

Set in a “murky medieval world”, Alkahest features highly interactive environments and satisfying melee combat to inspire creativity in any given battle scenario.

It also has some rather gorgeous visuals, boasting hyper-realistic environments and character models which look incredible.

Alkahest's Combat Is Designed Around Physics and Realism

Combat is designed around physics because, as developer Push On says in its latest blog post, “you’re a human being in a dangerous world, facing opponents who outnumber you, outweigh you, and absolutely want you dead”.

That means combat isn’t necessarily about having a weapon that can deal loads of damage and armour that can tank any hit. Instead, you’ll need to be vigilant, time your attacks well, and have a technique that can better your opponents.

Push On says that its ultimate goal is “to make every encounter feel closer to a fencing duel than a button-mashing brawl,” and that “your sword isn’t a blunt tool - it’s an elegant weapon that rewards precision, timing, and intent”.

This results in each attack supporting directional input, meaning your sword swings can change depending on which way you push the buttons on your keyboard or controller.

It can mean going for a downward slash, a stab from the hip, or an uppercut to meet the enemy’s blade.

Your attacks in Alkahest are supposed to be fluid and readable, and this also applies to your opponent so you can gauge which attack to use when in a swordfight.

“The goal is expressive, fluid combat that makes you feel like a real swordsman - not a rigid simulation that drowns you in mechanical detail,” reads the blog post.

Alkahest has been in development for almost two years, but there isn’t a release date in sight yet.

Considering the incredible work that has been demonstrated so far, I’d imagine Push On is still busy making sure the game’s systems, levels, and AI are all functioning as intended, which may mean it’s not quite ready for a release date announcement yet.

However, I’ll certainly be keeping my eye on this one for a release date reveal in the future. Push On has started releasing new dev diaries on Steam to explore different aspects of the game, so that’ll tide us over in the meantime.
